Bootlegger is a self-funded independent production by Nails.net.au. Where possible local small‑scale producers with artistic sympathies in line withour own were used. In aesthetic terms the bandannas themselves are modelled after the type you might find in importer shops, however attention has been paid to sourcing quality materials and skilled makers. |

Bootlegger demanded a large investment of time. Ten months from conception to fruition, this project is the result of thousands of emails, hundreds of phone calls, a lot of hair-pulling, and of course many long nights. Each artist supplied a digital file of their original artwork that was then applied to silk-screens. The screen-printing was done by Michael and Katy at Magic Hands, a collective enterprise producing wonderful edition works. They hand-pulled each print, making every bandanna unique in the application of ink, embracing the little quirks and glitches that make this process so loved by artists. The printed fabric pieces were then laboriously hand-cut down to size before being sent off to Untitled Graphic, a local clothing production initiative, who coordinated the final finishing. Each bandanna was then hand numbered before packaging. |
