Niels Oeltjen aka Nails is a multidisciplinary visual artist currently residing in Australia. He gained prominence from his involvement in the influential street-art scene in Melbourne in the mid 2000s, in which he was considered an innovator. He has been exhibiting since 1997 and continues to exhibit his work widely. His working process is project-based, and is inclusive of varying platforms and applications. Wooden Foundations is a collective made up of Bonsai, Oh54!, Twoone, and yours truly. For this show we created an installation that aimed to explore our artistic collaboration as an extension of our street-based collabs, and the convergence of personal mythology into the group scenario. As collectors of miscellany, and users of recycled material in our work, we committed to creating the installation almost entirely out of recycled, reclaimed, or re-used material.
